For international students, the school runs two PhD programs (Management Science and Engineering, Business Administration). The Master of Business Administration program of the school was ranked 11th by the Chinese Ministry of Education during its third discipline ranking. In November 2011, the school was accredited to run Executive MBA and became the first business school in West China to get such accreditation. The school runs courses in both Chinese and English languages. Currently, there are about 135 International students from 30 countries. In 2020, out of 96 PhD applicants, 16 were admitted to the School, representing the top 16.67%, out of 16 Master applicants, 1 was admitted to the School (Chinese Program), representing the top 6.25%.
In 1997, it was included as one of the first universities into "Project 211", a project in China for developing 100 first-class universities and a number of key fields of research for the 21st century. In 2001, UESTC was admitted into the nation's Project 985, receiving special support for developing world-class universities and world-famous research-oriented universities. In 2017, the University was selected as one of "Double First-class" universities (Top 36).
