GIBS (Gordon Institute of Business Science) at the University of Pretoria has officially received re-accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), one of the world’s leading authorities on post-graduate business education, demonstrating its continuing commitment to excellence in management education.
Upon receiving AMBA accreditation, all current MBA and DBA students and recent MBA and DBA alumni of GIBS are invited to join AMBA’s global member community of more than 60,000 students and alumni in more than 150 countries on a free basis, for networking, thought leadership, career development, and a variety of benefits.
Accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) represents the highest standard of achievement in post-graduate business education. Its rigorous assessment criteria ensure that only the highest-calibre programmes which demonstrate the best standards in teaching, curriculum, and student interaction achieve Association of MBAs accreditation.
GIBS is the Business School of the University of Pretoria (UP) and is one of the ten faculties within the university. The School is located in Sandton, Johannesburg, which is the business heartland of South Africa and the greater African region. AMBA accredits GIBS’s portfolio of MBA programmes, as well as its DBA programme.
Members of AMBA’s accreditation panel, representing senior management at AMBA-accredited Business Schools globally, commended the School’s engagement with the corporate world and the fact that its portfolio of MBA programmes are tailored to the market. An example of this being that the case studies used at the School are all set in an African context.
The accreditation team also mentioned the excellent facilities at the School, in particular noting the investment in technology-enhanced learning.
Finally, the panel noted that the students’ ability to customise their MBA programmes through a wide range of electives, was impressive.
‘We are delighted to receive AMBA re-accreditation, which, together with our other international accreditations, reconfirms GIBS’ position within the top 1% of business schools worldwide. We continue to strive to inspire exceptional performance through responsible business education within our African context,’ said GIBS Dean, Professor Morris Mthombeni.
AMBA accreditation is international in scope and reach, and AMBA works under the belief that accredited programmes should be of the highest standard and reflect changing trends and innovation in post-graduate management education. Its accreditation process reflects this commitment to fostering innovation, and demanding Business Schools to perform at the highest level continually.
Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (BGA) said: ‘I would like to congratulate everyone at GIBS who worked towards this re-accreditation. This excellent Business School has a far-reaching impact on African Business, as well as Business Schools around the world. I look forward to continuing to work with this School to make a positive impact on the quality of business education on a global scale.’
