AMBA & BGA’s Chair Bodo Schlegelmilch has been announced as the recipient of American Marketing Association’s 2020 Significant Contributions to Global Marketing Award.

The Award honours a scholar who has contributed significantly to the field of global marketing and the winner is selected by a panel of past winners of the Significant Contributions award, current and past editors/co-editors of the Journal of International Marketing, and other distinguished academics appointed by the board of directors of the American Marketing Association.

This year’s selection committee for the Award was comprised of David A Griffith (Texas A&M University and Committee Chair), Kelly Hewett (University of Tennessee), and Leonidas Leonidou (University of Cyprus).

In addition to his role as Chair of AMBA & BGA’s International Management Board, Professor Schlegelmilch is a Professor of International Management and Marketing and heads the Institute for International Marketing Management at WU Vienna University of Economics and Business.

For more than 10 years, he served as the founding Dean of the WU Executive Academy. He has received numerous teaching and research awards as well as fellowships from the Academy of International Business, the Academy of Marketing Science and the Chartered Institute of Marketing. His research interests span from international marketing strategy to CSR, and his work has been published in a wide range of books and journals, such as the Journal of International Business Studies, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science, Journal of International Marketing, and Journal of World Business.

The Significant Contributions Award will be presented at the 2020 American Marketing Association’s Global Marketing Conference in Taormina, Italy, in May.

Professor Schlegelmilch said: ‘With nearly 300 accredited Business Schools in more than 70 countries, AMBA & BGA is a truly global organisation.

‘As a researcher who happens to be the Chair of this organisation, I am in the unique situation where practice can benefit from theory and theory benefits from dealing with managerial realities.’
