Renowned Rhodes Business School achieves AMBA re-accreditation

Rhodes Business School, Rhodes University officially received re-accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA), one of the world’s leading authorities on post-graduate business education, demonstrating its continuing commitment to excellence in management education.

Upon receiving AMBA accreditation, all current MBA students and recent MBA alumni of Rhodes Business School are invited to join AMBA’s global member community of more than 56,000 students and alumni in more than 150 countries on a free basis, for networking, thought leadership, career development, and a variety of benefits.

Accreditation from the Association of MBAs (AMBA) represents the highest standard of achievement in post-graduate business education. Its rigorous assessment criteria ensure that only the highest-calibre programmes which demonstrate the best standards in teaching, curriculum, and student interaction achieve Association of MBAs accreditation.

Rhodes Business School based in Makhanda, South Africa was founded in 2000.  Its parent, Rhodes University,  now in its 118th year, is one of 26 public universities in the country and has a strong national reputation for research and student success.

Members of AMBA’s accreditation panel, representing senior management at AMBA-accredited Business Schools globally, commended the focus on sustainability and responsible management at the School. The panel thought that this distinctive focus provided a unique platform to the students for global leadership learning.

Faculty members who met the panel during the accreditation assessment were seen to be enthusiastic and driven in their support of the School and the MBA programme. The leadership team was also seen to be impressive and committed to the success of their students.

‘Re-accreditation in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, was certainly an experience that we hope not to repeat, but notwithstanding that, we found it once again, to be an extremely worthwhile exercise in showing how our School has benefitted from our AMBA membership since our first accreditation. Despite being the smallest university in South Africa, our impact is significant in our location and the independent verification that AMBA provides is very gratifying. We are proud to continue to be part of the AMBA family of Schools’, said Professor Owen Skae, Director of Rhodes Business School

AMBA accreditation is international in scope and reach, and AMBA works under the belief that accredited programmes should be of the highest standard and reflect changing trends and innovation in post-graduate management education. Its accreditation process reflects this commitment to fostering innovation, and demanding Business Schools to perform at the highest level continually.

Andrew Main Wilson, Chief Executive of the Association of MBAs and Business Graduates Association (BGA) said: ‘Congratulations to Rhodes Business School for this impressive re-accreditation. Rhodes Business School is dedicated to the success of its students and also to responsible management in general. I am look forward to working closely with this School in the future to help further these principles.’
