Africa and the Middle East is home to some of the fastest growing economies in the world, which has led to the development of a thriving start-up scene. With the economic boom that growth promises, entrepreneurship and grassroot innovations can play a pivotal role in solving the region’s biggest challenges, such as poverty, unsafe drinking water and food scarcity.

Regionally developed innovations are best placed to make a sustainable impact in communities, as they emerge from real understanding of the local challenges and offer context-specific solutions. Recent innovations that serve the underserved members of society, such as M-Pesa or affordable baby delivery kits, are driven entirely by entrepreneurs and bring the region closer to the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals of no poverty and zero hunger.

Business schools, as the hubs of knowledge and managerial training in the region, are in the best position to foster and encourage their students and graduates to innovate, helping build sustainable businesses that create better livelihoods for communities throughout the region of Africa and the Middle East.

In this workshop, the third dedicated towards African and Middle Eastern business schools, speakers will delve into their professional experiences in promoting entrepreneurship practices in their business schools and demonstrate how business schools can successfully implement initiatives to encourage entrepreneurship amongst their students and graduates.
